Being irredeemable means someone has refused to change or repent. Someone said person (or I guess character if we're talking fandom) hurt doesn't owe them forgiveness! But that still doesn't make them irredeemable if they're out there atoning and changing. Some people will forgive things and some won't. I feel like what people mean by "irredeemable" is "are they unforgivable" and forgiveness is, on the whole, a super personal thing. Something the person did may not be able to be changed (as in you can't go back to the past) but the person themselves, by changing, makes themselves redeemable. The Cambridge definition of irredeemable is impossible to correct , improve, or change. People will see a character who did Bad Stuff atoning and and making changes in their life and still call them irredeemable, but BY, in fact, changing, they automatically are NOT irredeemable. The way some parts of fandom talk about characters being "irredeemable" is so ? Messed up? First of all, I think the word is being used incorrectly. You can just like it and if that's all there is to it, that's perfectly okay. You don't need trauma to justify liking dark things. Let's not make people think they need a reason to enjoy what they do. I get the point of those posts is to stop people from harping on others when they might be digging into said trauma, or harassing others for their coping methods, which is definitely wrong - but let's be clear in our intent and not alienate people that are just here for the fun of it. You don't need anything to justify liking it. You don't need trauma to justify liking it. Guys, trauma is not the only reason to enjoy dead dove do not eat content. That there needs to be a justification at all. Accidentally or not, the implication being made is that trauma is the reason people enjoy dark content. But I do think there's an unfortunate implication being made in a lot of those posts. I'm not saying anything against that - there's nothing wrong with it. There's lots of talk out there about working through trauma via dark fanfiction.
